Only a few days remain before the final release of Ubuntu 9.10, the 11th stable release of the distribution that is clearly marching from strength to strength. As is always the case on release days, don’t expect the main Ubuntu server and its mirrors to function at lightning speeds, at least until the initial demand is satisfied. Fortunately, there will likely be alternatives to watching the snail-like progress of the download indicator as early Ubuntu reviews, analyses, commentaries and interviews will surely fill many technical web sites, big and small. If you are eager to start reading on “Karmic Koala”, the page carrying the official release notes is an excellent starting point. But for those who are eagerly awaiting the freshly pressed Ubuntu CDs to arrive in their mail boxes, there is some bad news – for the first time in its history, Canonical has decided to limit the free media to certain categories of users, such as official user groups, Ubuntu contributors or people who are unlikely to have access to other forms of obtaining the distribution: “We will continue to supply CDs to LoCo teams and Ubuntu members. And we hope to make CDs available to everyone who is just discovering Ubuntu. But we are limiting shipments to people that we think have alternative paths of getting Ubuntu.”

20 Features in Mandriva 2010

I love Ubuntu and I am an Ubuntu user a long time ago but the next version Ubuntu 9.10 seems to focus on wallpapers and themes !! I don’t like Ubuntu’s way of development. It is just focusing on themes and ignoring important projects like PulseAudio and X.org.
In this article I will talk a little about the new features that will be in Mandriva 2010. The final version is expected to be available on the 3rd of November.
Mandriva Linux 2010 is aimed at improving the user experience for daily tasks. let’s have a look to what’s new :

1- New design for installer

To better user experience of installation, the Mandriva developers thought that installer design is quite old now and need to be refreshed to stay ahead of competition. The next screenshot shows the new design.

2- Live upgrade

Finally, Mandriva Online will be able to notify user about the  new version of the distribution and propose the system to upgrade it without using installer.

3- Moblin desktop

Mandriva 2010 will include the Moblin 2.0 environment designed for mobile desktop platforms, making Mandriva Linux the first distribution to integrate it in a free distribution.This environment has been designed for mobile desktop platforms. Netbooks are a given target but you can also use it when you want an ergonomic and simple environment for daily tasks.
Installing it is easy: install task-moblin package in rpmdrake and choose Moblin in connection manager.

4-  Guest accounts

Guest accounts, based on the xguest package, can now be established to offer safe temporary access to the system via gdm or kdm.

All 2009 Spring isos are hybrid isos. You can dump it on a USB key and use this key as an install media. Please find GUI tool to create it: mandriva-seed.sh for Linux platforms, mandriva-seed-windows.zip for Windows one.

Free edition
============
The Free edition of Mandriva Linux is so named because it is ‘free’ in both senses: it costs nothing and it contains only free and open source software, as defined by the Free Software Foundation and Open Source Initiative. It contains a fully functional distribution with a range of applications aimed at typical desktop use. It must be installed to your hard disk prior to use. This is the ideal edition of Mandriva Linux to use if you wish to evaluate a comprehensive Mandriva Linux edition, or if you wish to use only free / open source software on your system.

One edition

The One edition of Mandriva Linux is a Live CD. The small size of Mandriva One also makes it ideal for users with slow or bandwidth limited Internet connections.

Banyak orang yang bertanya, sebenernya apa sih bedanya unlimited warnet dengan unlimited office? Secara gitu, harganya juga beda (hampir 2x lipatnya) padahal sama-sama unlimited dan di klaim mampu berlari sampai dengan 64/384 kbps.
